Summary Severus catches up with Bella in the Slytherin Common Room. They discuss the reality of love.
Bellatrix lay on her stomach on the couch in the common room, five firewhiskey bottles at the base of the couch. Atleast she was again sober, but drinking was a nasty habit of hers when she felt frustrated. I was a reflex she needed to most definatly work on.
Severus walked down the stairs into the common room. Seeing Bellatrix on the sofa, he came over to her and sat down on the floor next to her. 'Bella?'
She flipped onto her side, looking at him."Yes?" Her voice was slurred, and she noticed. Bella would've given anything to disappear right then and there.
'You all right?' He said, settling down beside her and reaching up, rather boldly, to push a strand of hair away from her face.
"I'm great. Just remind me to never drink again, will you? I almost did something I would've definatly regretted."
'Oh?' he raises his eyebrows at her. 'Well, I didn't bring you any more firewhiskey and I will remind you not to drink any more.'
"Great. I would've punched you if you would've brought me some."She sat up, putting a hand to her head considering she felt quite dizzy.
He sat up, stood and then set down beside her on the couch. 'If you drank all of that on the floor I'm surprised you didn't pass out,' he said, reaching up again to push a strand of hair out of her face. 'And that you're as coherent as you are. What did you almost do that you would have regretted?'
Bella rested her head on his shoulder, looking at the empty bottles."I almost told Andie something."
He hesitated a brief moment before slipping his arm around her shoulders. 'What?'
"Well, you know about my 'tattoo'. She wouldn't have taken it as well."
'Ah,' he said. 'No, that's true, she wouldn't have.' He frowned. 'Bella, you need to be careful, you can't go sharing that type of information with just anyone. There are those who wouldn't... understand.'
"Do you think I'm stupid, or something? If that's the case, you're in for a rude awakening. I don't need to be scolded like I'm a child, Severus!"
'no!' He looked at her. 'I'm not scolding. Just... worried. I know you're no child.' He glanced at her, taking in her hair, his eyes briefly resting on her lips before looking back to her eyes. 'I know you're no child.' He repeated.
She furrowed her brows, sighing as a tear silently fell."I just feel like I'm lying to Andie when I don't tell her. You wouldn't believe the guilt trip."
'Andi wouldn't get it, Bella.'
"I understand that. I'm not even sure you get it."
'What's that supposed to mean?' He gave her a funny look.
Bellatrix sat up, looking at him."When I told you, it was a mistake. The second time you were the one asking to know, so I told you. I could tell that you were uncomfortable, and that's probably why you asked me to Hogsmeade. Because I revealed that I fancy you and you were probably scared I'd hex you senseless if you said that you don't give a fuck about me."The firewhiskey had made her moody, and she didn't mean for everything to come out the way it did. Still, she couldn't take it back.
'What?' Severus stared at her. 'Bella that's nuts. I asked you to Hogsmeade because I think you're the most fucking beautiful girl in this school that's why. I didn't think you'd care a bit about me. I might be a Pureblood but I don't have anything to call my own. Of course I'm going to be hesitant to ask you out. You're gorgeous, you're a Black, and you've already garnered the Dark Lord's attention which is no small feat.'
She breathed heavily, mouth open and ready to retort. Bella closed her eyes for a moment, then reopened them and simply nodded.
He raised his eyebrow at her. 'A nod? That's all? Are you convinced or are you just nodding to placate me?'
"I'm sorry, alright? I'm convinced."
He breathed out, suddenly frustrated and unconvinced that she was convinced. 'You were serious about what you said earlier, about not believing in love, weren't you?'
"I've never believed in love, even though it's what I need to believe in. Why do you ask?"
'Just curious,' he said. 'I think you need someone to make you believe in love,' he said quietly.
Her head bowed as she looked at the floor. The concept of love was an enigma to her."I doubt anyone will ever be able to have that power over me."
'Never?' He said and slipped his fingers through hers, feeling suddenly as if there was nothing he wanted more in the world than to make this girl fall madly in love with him. It was clearly going to be a challenge, but he'd never backed down from one of those before. And he'd do it-and without love potions or love spells either, although he knew a couple.
"Never is so far away."She looked into his eyes, not wanting to ever surrender her heart to anyone. Bella thought it just may kill her.
'It is,' he said with much more certainty than he actually felt. 'So let's not say never.'
